no talk of summer
while mothers arms are empty
let our children go
summer solstice
longest day of the year
everyone swimming
in unabashed delicious light..
but all i can think about are the endless nights
of these children
these parents
and the cruel heartless despicable
zero-tolerance policy.
today
when the sun reached its highest point
in the noon sky-
our country fell to an all time low.

We live in dark times. All the more reason for us to let our light, no matter how feeble, shine.

And so we gather here... a family of sorts holding the shorn threads of our humanity, finding the cracks where the light gets in no matter how broken. Each small word reminds me why I am here. Why we are here. Humbled by the huge work that is still before us. Thank you Rebecca for your passionate heart and for bringing us together. XOXOXO

I took a cue from your haiku, Rebecca, and wrote one of my own that reflects the atrocities that are being enacted daily at our border with Mexico.

The people have spoken and the great Orange has heard. Reluctantly and with selective hearing, but heard!
Thank you Rebecca for this peaceful place to light upon during our hectic hours.
