smiling to myself
inside and out snow falling
the stars and the moon
here in the snowy southwest
i find myself dreaming of flowers,
bright early sunrises, and the joy of slipping tiny
seeds into the warming earth.
all the while another storm rolls in and paints
my longing in a glistening shroud of white.
i am not alone in my dreaming of flowers-
two florescent hummingbirds
arrived before the snow.
we have it all worked out.
i bring the nectar in each sunset-
to keep it from freezing
and place it in the tall yucca
when the sun has returned to warm the
welcoming air.
my harbingers of hope return each morning
to sit in the yucca all day and sip their
sweet elixir;
all the while our hearts beat as one-
care takers of wonder.
a weekly victory of
tiny jubilant love
xoxo
