she set down her torch
worn from holding up the sky
tired liberty
"give me your tired, your poor,
your huddled masses
yearning to breathe free,
the wretched refuse of your teaming shore.
send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.
i will lift my lamp beside the golden door."
emma lazarus

let's lift our love light higher
open the door of humanity wider
let's live life where love is the only answer
to every question.

What a precious photo! Poor Liberty, she must be worn out indeed!

Many people in Murrieta, California don't know anything about "huddled masses yearning to breathe free." I was appalled that angry adults screamed at a busload of frightened children and women who had been sent to a local Border Patrol station for processing. I was even more appalled later to learn that the mayor of Murrieta encouraged city residents to protest in this indecent and unseemly manner. The children and women on the bus may have crossed the border illegally, but they deserved to be treated with dignity and respect, not treated like animals. Lady Liberty must be weeping.

We are one big family on this haiku platform and indeed the world over. Happy weekend, Rebecca.

It would be awesome if the world were one big family. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. Maybe someday. Kudos to Mark R. for his comment. Though many don't agree with the illegal crossings, still...Americans should never forget dignity and respect.

This is so sad. I feel heart broken for the children. You know they must be homesick, missing their families, and then arriving here in this heat wave and being yelled at.
It is our borders and rules that make criminals out of good people that just want a better life.

I have a hard time sometimes...understanding this county of ours, I guess more precisely our government. Thank you for embracing all that is good here dear Rebecca.
