Alma de Maria
soul of mary
inspired from a nineteenth century oil on tin
mexican retablo and great affection
***
one forgotten silver tray
resurrected from a local thrift store
paints, embellishments,
promise and love
sanctified between glass
silver roses and heartfelt
adoration
Serving Mary
a series where each piece is created
from ruminations and resurrected offerings
discovered at a favorite thrift store,
where all proceeds support women and children
carving out a new life.
Serving Mary
a two day workshop to be offered in the Spring
What a beautiful tray! That workshop sounds like a really good thing. Another great service; you have such a generous spirit and heart!

What a beautiful piece this is--and it sounds like we are cut from the same cloth--thrift shops and garage sales to get the stuff for art. Where is the workshop?

Not so virginal today, though Mary's featured. More political. Back to virginal tomorrow.

Marys and Virgins have so many personalities and purposes....I appreciate each and every ones approach to this wonderful movement. I love ya Rebecca and wish I could blink my eyes, click my heels and wiggle my nose to transcend myself to YOU!

Rebecca,
She is a madonna of elegant simplicity, a mother of the hearthfire. She serves love to all and blesses all. I love her sideways glance, her crooked plum of a mouth, her rose cheeks, and is that a golden dove on her dress? Lovely! She looks as if she is holding an olive branch possibly. She has been adorned with red sequins in her crown and you have added some silver to her necklace as you did for the shrine for Frida! In fact, truth be told, her crown reminds me a bit of Frida's. So appropriate. Both women sacrificed so much for love. And now she is giving again to these wonderful women who need her help. I have posted another virgin. I posted one yesterday for haiku too. I posted both rather late because of a hospital visit and today, meeting with my professor/advisor for my thesis! but I have not forgotten.
xoxo,
Noelle

Oh, this is too good. Right up my alley, obsessed with images of the Virgin. (and I am an "eclectic" buddhist)...

I LOVE HER FACE. So very, very much. Those eyes, that smile... there is understanding both of pain and joy in this face. And so much compassion...
