hola mi amors!!!
as Autumn slips in around the edges of these last long days of summer my heart stirs in mysterious ways.
i love this time of year. it speaks in golden light with a thrill that resonates in each singular cell. my heart swells like an over filled market basket of honey coloured candles, copal, mescal and giant armfuls of marigolds. and i am ready once again to begin preparations for the fervent celebrating of Dia de Los Muertos!
just yesterday as the thunderheads rose in a vault blue sky, i passed a drift of flowers. not just any flowers...cempasuchil, flowers of the dead. the pungent yellow orange marigolds used in mexico to lay a trail of bright colour and striking scent for loved ones to navigate back to this world and the homes and families they love.
that huge stand of flowers worked it's magic and my heart expanded to the clouds with their power to transport me back to dia de los muertos. it took my breath away. i was filled with the wonder of all my privileged years to sit in a night sea of candles among those i love in my beloved oaxaca.
side by side on the dark hillside of a oaxacan panteon swimming in a sea of flickering candles i have shared todos santos. witnessed the traditions, passed the mescal, watched in wonder, wrapped in robozos, completely swept away in nights like no other.
it stirs my heart, all these miles from mexico and years of memories later, to begin an altar. born of love and deep appreciation for the presence and charm of mexico and her people who reside in my heart everyday. an altar to pour my love into and when finished....to offer here, in the hopes of transforming my gratitude into a world of promise and possibilities for Oaxaca Streetchildren Grassroots.
do you feel the golden light whispering straight to your heart?
"time to rise and shrine my altaristas..." it whispers with a thrill and anticipation...
I'm in and have already finished one and have one more planned up! So glad to make it in this year. smooches

mine is brewing and simmering on my creative stove! I visualize it, and now all I have to do is make it a reality! Your words transcend me back to Isla Mujeres, where I witnessed in a small way, dia de los muertos, the lovely trails of marigolds leading from the headstones in the ancient cemetery in the island. Now it my time to SHRINE!
