i love the moments in life when we sense a depth of connection.
the way a familiar face comforts one when they have been far from home too long.
the way your heart swells when you hear the sound of your loved ones voices at the end of a long day.
any unexpected moment that tugs at your heart with a sense of belonging.
as artists many of us slip away in the pursuit of our creative work.
some in the quiet of late nights while our families have given themselves over
to slumber and dreaming.
some to the predawn.. when life outside our windows only whispers
and the earths slate is clean and waits for us like an open canvas.
no matter when we steel away to our creative musings,
most of us take this journey alone.
surrounded by our treasured supplies and coveted collections of possibilities
spilling out on this table and on to the next.
when i distill it all down what i desire most is intimacy, connection.
whether it is a connection to the dish shards
that pass through my hands as i place them thoughtfully one by one
giving them new life and order or when i consciously elevate the ordinary into the sacred
as i travel through the course of my day.
i choose to reside in a world of authenticity,
inserting deeper meaning at every turn in the road.
it is so interesting that this practice of writing out into the ether,
which seems so abstract and far reaching,
gives me a sense of being tied to something greater than myself,
which comforts me in unexpected and remarkably fortifying ways.
thank you dear readers, you sweeten my moment.
