here is a collection of my students mosaic sacred hearts. the first view of each represents a place in the creative process where each student is responding to their materials, working with layers, scale, colour, texture, contrast, and placement. the second photograph was taken after decisions had been made and pieces secured with adhesive. the students will grout their pieces at home after the adhesive has cured for at least 24 hours. grouting gives a stronger voice to each piece, unifying and giving it a wholeness and architectual presence. it is so satisfying to watch the developement of each individuals piece. to enjoy the varity of expression within the constraints of the same format. and to always invite the students to step away from their own project from time to time and share the rich expression and approach of others in class. the accumulative knowledge is priceless.
